BACKGROUND

in 2019 61 million Americans were enrolled in Medicare, a healthcare program for retirees. Yet 70% of those enrolled, wish they understood the product better. In addition, research shows that many Americans are unintentionally underinsured, which could lead to huge unexpected and out-of-pocket costs. Medicare Benefits solves these issues by taking an extremely complicated insurance product, and making it simple. It also compares policies and matches users to their most relevant product, via the 'Plan Finder' - that takes users through a step-by-step questionnaire, guided by the site's avatar 'Mary Beth'.

OUR ROLE

Pixel Kids was responsible for leading the UI design of the site - working in a small collaborative team of UX / content and UI. The project was taken on after the initial look and feel of the first few pages had been designed in first draft and A/B tested. We proposed an overhaul of the look and feel based on an early iteration of the designs (see last slide) which was being considered for testing as a phase 2.

The style and content of the pages were then significantly progressed over the course of several months. With Pixel Kids creating additional marketing pages and the plan finder section, as well as the style guide and developing the site's guide/avatar. Special attention was given to the needs of our +65 target market, both in terms of accessibility and usability.
